Activities are not necessarily change initiative. As long as they do not contribute to the fulfillment of the four (4) major domains of execution leadership which are executing, influencing, relationship building and strategic thinking, activities become unnecessary distractions.

Most leaderss want to be popular with several CSR activities that have no bearing to the four areas listed above and end up initiating several activities and sponsorship programs.

These programs on their own are not bad, but the alignment of needed programs with the core functions of execution as outlined above are crucial. To place activities above these domain is to exhibit crass leadership traits.

According to a publication of Strengths based Leadership, 34 strengths finder themes were broken into the 4 domains above. These have been found to be critical elements to help leaders break the enemies of execution into these four classes as identified by Tom Rath.
