31 Rules Of Success: Rule #27. See Work As Fun.
Success is incomplete until it is fun-filled. The quest to achieve success drains energy and sometimes build up stress in individuals which can be released in the form of playful fun. Success does not always require graveyard seriousness. Sometimes it requires a chorus of joyous voices shouting at each other, back slapping and sharing games together.
Fun is nothing but setting aside time for naughty things like play games entertainment, listening to music, dancing, etc. These are little stuff that tunes down the mind from the pressure of the day. Success happens when individuals work hard and play hard at the same time. Fun gives happiness and helps those engaged in it to express emotions like laughter, panting, crying, shouting or screaming but this does not make them less normal or hardworking.
People enjoy what gives them fun and they want to do more of it. They generally abhor what kills their creativity, slow them down and make them moody. Unfortunately, the nature of some jobs demand absolute concentration, physical activity and sometimes social interaction. These factors combine to make work boring, unattractive or painful to some employees and team members.
Rather than see work as a painful process, leaders build into it fun producing systems through the addition of games or activities to break the monotony that accompanies it. They have come to the realization that success can only be sustained if the process that generates it is enjoyable by those directly involved in creating it.
Many individuals actually think failures make team members to suck. What worries team members much more is achieving success on consistent basis. When this happens, they celebrate while the leader is mostly engrossed in thoughts of how can I make this happen again?
Leaders who want to create a mix of work and playful environment can do the following:
- Give your mind short vacations. Take out time daily to think about things unrelated to work. Example is looking at nature and admiring the beauty of flowers.
- Give your body intermittent rest. Take out time to rest your body and prevent it from breaking down. Develop a body maintenance program and keep to the schedules. Your body maintenance program could be exercises, massages, medical checks and dieting.
- Create out of work schedules. Travel and spend some time in attending parties, public functions, meeting with friends, going to orphanages and some unexpected spots to see how other people live their lives. Have fun, play, eat and dance.
- Get enough sleep at night and take a nap in the day. Make sure you have enough rest at night by sleeping enough. During the day, find time to take a nap for 30 minutes and your system will recover remarkably.
