What Will Make Me Succeed As A Leader

1) Have a broad focus on the leadership activities. Leaders coordinate and ensure alignment of

activities towards achievement of set goals. Leadership activities are complex, evolving and involving several

processes and skills with responsibilities being

manned by talented people. The leader must avoid the temptation of micro management. The question that should be asked is who is actually more important, the leader or the

people?

2. Embrace a high level accountability. The leadership job is a top echelon position. He is the boss and

reports to no one else.
This perhaps is the greatest danger facing any executive – lack of accountability to no one. The position makes leaders break existing rules, create new

ones for their convenience and interpret policies to suit their egos. Such executives are in dire need of

rescue in order to restore their sanity. Any power hungry leader may never make a mark

because his vision will be blurred by their unfounded arrogance. Leaders must subordinate themselves to a board authorities to remove the tendency of recklessness, tyranny or toxic leadership.

3) Do not work in silos. Success is a team sport which some leaders fail to realize. Some as way of dealing
with their incompetence complex or for the fear of

their inadequacies being spotted, do choose to work
alone or with a select few that they find less smarter
than they are. In nearly all circumstances, men of

high intelligence should not isolate themselves and
make other people keep to themselves. A knowledge shared will create synergy and better performance by

all team members instead of several individuals working on the same project adopting different

approaches and strategies.
The job of leadership is getting a better and lasting result through others. Success is never a solo effort. A leader who cannot function
in a team comprising of critical minds is suffering

from incompetence complex. Always being fired-up by yes men who only say the things they want to hear

is the beginning of their downward slide to failure.

4) Handle soft issues with care. The focus of many leaders and their major preoccupation is profitability.

These in most cases are not reasons for their rough rides in their official capacities. Soft issues can become major determinants of the tenure of these leaders
